I was delighted to attend an event at the Senedd in celebration of 10 years of the Active Travel Act – a game-changer for sustainable transport in Wales.
The Active Travel Act was passed in 2013, and it has been a huge success. Since its introduction, the number of people walking and cycling in Wales has increased significantly and the benefits are clear – air quality has improved, traffic congestion has reduced and more people are getting the exercise they need, leading to a healthier population.
Of course, there is still more work to be done. The Welsh Government needs to continue to invest in active travel infrastructure, and we need to do more to promote walking and cycling as a healthy and sustainable way to travel, but this pioneering legislation has been a great start, and I am proud to have celebrated its 10th anniversary!
